McNamara, Ambacher, Wheeler, Hirsig & Gray LLP was originally founded by Daniel McNamara and William Channell in response to a need for a defense litigation firm in the burgeoning Contra Costa County.

William Channell left the firm upon his recruitment to a Superior Court judgeship in 1970, and his subsequent elevation to the California Court of Appeal of the First Appellate District in 1983. Under the continued guidance of Daniel McNamara, the firm became one of the leading independent defense litigation practices in the region.

In 1988, the firm established a second office in Fairfield to better serve its clients and to meet an increasing demand for high-quality legal representation in Solano County. The firm primarily serves the Greater San Francisco Bay Area counties but handles cases throughout California, enjoying long standing relationships with a roster of local, regional and national clients.
